  1. I rather like them. The purpose of a funeral should be to highlight the things that made the individual’s life most memorable, not just to declare that citizen number 555-55-5555 has died. If someone had a great sense of humor, for example, funerary paraphernalia should reflect that. Conventional coffins and gravestone inscriptions have so little individuality that we might as well skip the graveyard concept altogether and just cremate everyone and assign each person’s ashes a little compartment in a file drawer. (Of course, from there my warped brain starts speculating about card catalogue cross-reference systems and public library style member accounts so you can take your dearly-departed out for picnics…)
